A few weeks ago, I attended HispanicizeLA and while I’ve attended the Miami one several years, this was the first time I would make it to their Los Angeles edition. This also happened to be the first year the event would be extended into a 3 day event versus the usual one day event.  I was also looking forward to it since they had reached out and invited me to be one of their social media ambassadors. Since 2016 I’ve had the opportunity to work with them in one way or another so being a part of their LA event made it even more special. The event would also be wrapping up Hispanic Heritage Month so what better way than to celebrate our heritage by attending HispanicizeLA!

Since I live in the Los Angeles area, I didn’t stay at the Intercontinental Hotel where the event took place, which meant I would need to drive to and from the event. I decided to team up with Chevy to drive one of their vehicles during the event here in Los Angeles, but to my surprise, I never expected a truck! I’ve had the opportunity to work on several occasions with Chevy and I’ve driven several of their cars and SUVs but never one of their trucks. While I was nervous because I had never driven one, I was looking forward to it since Chevy trucks are pretty much an American tradition.

I had the truck for a week and I can honestly say I loved it. One thing that worried me about driving a truck was that it might be too big, but I ended up getting a Chevy Colorado which is considered a mid-size pickup and in all honesty, it felt more comfortable than my SUV but not huge. I had no problem in driving it or calculating distances because the bed of the truck wasn’t super long.

Prior to the event, I also met up with a friend that was visiting LA from Miami and met with her in Downtown LA for coffee before I headed to the opening party that Thursday.

I loved the truck for all the features it has such as the 6-way power driver and passenger seat, the super clear and wide rear view camera on a 4.2″ diagonal color screen, awesome 6-speaker audio system, all-weather floor mats, built-in 4G LTE Wi-Fi® hotspot, charging USB ports, and two charging outlets among many other features. Note that not all models come with these features; some are standard and some are extras you can add when customizing your vehicle.

It is worth mentioning that it also drives super smooth and surprisingly during those days it rained in Los Angeles which gave me the opportunity to drive it in the rain as well. It was perfect for driving through puddles because you felt safe and so high up that you didn’t fear having to pass through them like you sometimes do with vehicles that are much lower and closer to the ground.

Besides driving to and from Hispanicize LA, I also made a quick errand to a Latino Supermarket in the area and to my surprise, there was a much older/classic model of a Chevy truck parked out front as part of their decorations so I knew I had to snap a picture of it. Besides, what better way than to celebrate your heritage by visiting a Latino Supermarket, right? The truck parked outside also proved that Latinos in the USA have a special connection to Chevy vehicles, specifically trucks, because if not, why else would they have chosen a Chevy truck to display?

But I really am saving the best for last. I drove the vehicle for about a week and drove it to and from my house to the hotel for the event as well as any other places I went to during that week. My house is located about 21 miles from the hotel each way so just imagine how much I drove that truck during the time I had it. The truck that I used that week was equipped with the GM-exclusive Duramax® 2.8L Turbo-Diesel engine which makes it America’s most fuel-efficient midsize pickup truck. I can attest to that. To my surprise, I never had to pump gas during the time I had the truck and when I turned it in, it still had somewhat less than half a tank! I was sold at that! If the vehicle didn’t include any of the features, I wouldn’t care as long as it had that diesel engine! It was truly very efficient and what I loved the most about that truck.

I’m not a truck person, but honestly, I might give one a chance after driving this Chevy Colorado!

Thank you Chevy for loaning me the vehicle to drive that week; I truly enjoyed it!
