Nestled deep in the Campeche jungle and among archaeological treasures is Hacienda Uayamon. Built in 1700, Hacienda Uayamon is an ex-hacienda converted into a luxury boutique hotel.
It’s a hotel that boasts about its privacy since it’s so well hidden in the jungle; you’re literally surrounded by nothing but nature. If you’re looking to relax and be in complete seclusion & privacy, then this is your place. If you’re looking for a place full of activities to do, then this is not the place for you.
As I mentioned in my previous Campeche post, we booked a tour from our hotel to the Mayan archaelogical site of Edzna and on our way back, we were also driven to Hacienda Uayamon and were given a private tour of the grounds. We were lucky that we visited during the low season so there were only a few guests staying there which meant we had more time to visit and take pictures.
Upon arriving, we were welcomed into the main office and were given some agua con pitaya before we were given our tour. Note that there is a fee to tour the hotel but it’s the equivalent of like $2-3 USD per person. We spent about an hour taking the tour and then discovering for ourselves the hotel and its different areas.
The hotel is actually currently housed in the area known originally as the hospital of the hacienda, as we were told that much of the actual hacienda was lost. The property remained without an owner for years which gave way for it to be looted and damaged. Once purchased and restored in the 1980s, they salvaged what they were able to and that’s what became a luxury hotel. The hotel counts with a pool, a spa and a restaurant and is composed of 12 suites. That’s it. Which is why I say that you will be in total seclusion mode if you stay here even if the hotel is full.
The hotel has been used in countless novelas, movies, and used for weddings. If you do a wedding here, you do have the option of having the whole hacienda to you and your party since it’s only 12 suites.
The hacienda is beautiful and it really does feel like you get lost in time. If you don’t get the opportunity to stay but happen to visit this area of Campeche, definitely take a tour and take advantage of the amazing photo ops. I did consider taking another outfit for a photo shoot but it was extremely hot and since we’d be visiting after the pyramids, I knew the last thing I would want to do would be to do a photo shoot so I passed on the opportunity, but you could definitely make one happen since you’re already paying a fee to visit and they don’t really hurry you up and let you explore at your leisure.
This hacienda is definitely another hidden gem within Campeche, and one you must visit.
