My favorite moments from the 2016 Premios Billboard
The 2016 edition of the Premios Billboard have come and gone but since I was on vacation, I didn’t cover them or watch them live. I did however record them and managed to finally finish watching them and wanted to share my favorite moments plus share my picks for best dressed. The awards this year were great in comparison to other years; I don’t think there was really anything I didn’t like.
The opening number with Gente de Zona accompanied by Farruko, Papayo and El Dasa was, in my opinion, one of the best performances of the night! The song, Algo Contigo, is HOT and it’s so catchy that I was immediately hooked on it and even replayed it a few times. There’s a reason Premios Billboards debuts new singles during the awards. It’s been proven that it’s a great platform to debut new singles because of the exposure and because people love it so much that they download it immediately after. I was one of them. I downloaded it right after I found out what the name of the song was. If I’m not mistaken, Gente de Zona did this a few years ago when they debuted their single, La Gozadera with Marc Anthony. After they sang it during the awards, they launched it on iTunes and it ended up being #1 on the charts. Marc Anthony also did this one year when he debuted Vivir mi Vida and then launched it on iTunes right after and it did amazing. For this live performance, I liked the addition of Farruko and El Dasa, and have to admit, I loved El Dasa as part of it because you could tell he really enjoyed it, and who didn’t love his cute dance?! Great choice for the opening!
Daddy Yankee being awarded the Billboard Leadership Award for breaking boundaries and revolutionizing the Latin Music Industry. The award being presented to him by fellow Puerto Rican María Celeste Arrarás was the icing on the cake. VERY WELL DESERVED!
Yandel decided to make a salsa version of his song Imaginar with none other than Victor Manuelle, and they debuted it during the awards. The song was a hit and I loved seeing Yandel team up with another one of my favorites, Victor Manuelle, as well as seeing him perform and dance salsa! The song was then released on iTunes! Needless to say, I also downloaded this version.
Alejandro Fernandez was honored with the Billboard Hall of Fame Award, and seeing him receive the award and speak the way he spoke about his career and his father, was even more special. I’ve loved his rancheras for years and practically know all of his songs. He’s my favorite singer from that genre so I was happy to see him receive that award which is definitely well deserved.
HANDS DOWN my favorite part of the awards was the Daddy Yankee and Don Omar performance which was by far, the BEST performance of the night. I love their music like you guys have no idea and have been following their careers for years. Seeing them together on stage was amazing and they were on FIRE. If you’re a fan of reggaetón, then you know how big this junte was. This just made me super excited about their upcoming tour. I’m not gonna lie, I replayed this performance about 20 times. No lie. As a matter of fact, I still have the awards saved on my DVR just to watch this performance again whenever I want to. In case you’re wondering, I’m totally #TeamYankee but love Don Omar’s songs as well, but Yankee has a special place in my heart.
BEST DRESSED on the Red Carpet
Gaby Espino was my choice for best dressed woman on the red carpet. Everything from the hair to the makeup to the dress was perfect! She always looks stunning and this year was no exception!
Arap Bethke was my choice for best dressed man on the red carpet. He looked very dapper in this black ensemble.
