Hello and welcome to another week’s edition of “Cafecito con Becky”!

Last week was a short week because of the Thanksgiving holiday but nonetheless, a few events took place.

On Sunday I attended with some fellow bloggers and friends The Miami Symphony Orchestra (MISO) Chic event at the Adrienne Arsht Center in downtown Miami. The event benefited the No More Tears Foundation and the Voices For Children Foundation, Inc. It was a beautiful night of music and art.

On Thursday, I was invited by my friend Vanessa to spend Thanksgiving with her and her family. They too, recently moved to Miami from New York so it was just her immediate family in Miami for the holiday. She cooked a very delicious dinner that reminded me of my meals at home since she cooked Arroz con Gandules which is a dish we Puerto Ricans also eat during the holidays. Vanessa is Dominican which is why we have similar foods. We had a great time enjoying each other’s company all while creating great memories over delicious food, lots of wine and lots of laughs. Hope you also had a great Thanksgiving.

On Friday night, as most of you heard, history was made when Cuban dictator Fidel Castro died and massive happiness ensued within the Cuban community, specifically here in Miami. The news spread like wildfire late Friday night/early Saturday morning but that didn’t stop the Cubans from jumping into the streets to celebrate the end of a painful era for them. On Saturday, the celebration continued and since I never imagined living in Miami when he died, I knew I wouldn’t forgive myself for not being a part of it having been in the city when history was made as well as celebrated. That’s why I decided to head out with my friend to celebrate and document it as well. We hit Calle Ocho here in Littla Havana and this is what we found.

And of course, since we were already there, we had to take advantage and eat some goodies at Versailles 😉

The front page of Sunday’s edition of the Miami Herald was also a collector’s item.
